Frequently Asked Questions

When can I start driving lessons?

You can start driving lessons on your 17th birthday.

(That’s why we’re called ‘Seventeen’ actually.)

How many lessons will I need?

Everyone’s different, but the national average for a novice with no previous driving experience is 40-50 hours.

Do I need to bring my driving licence with me?

Yes, you’ll need to show your licence before each driving lesson.

If you haven’t got one yet, you can apply for a provisional driving licence at https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence. (Normally they take about 2 weeks to arrive.)

What is Pass Plus?

Tell me about Pass Plus…

Will I have to drive on a motorway?

Since June 2018, it’s been legal for learners to drive on the motorway as long as they’re accompanied by an approved driving instructor in a dual control car. However, we don’t have any motorways in Cornwall, so a dual carriageway is the next best thing.

Once you’ve built up some confidence behind the wheel, we’ll spend plenty of time in later lessons learning how to use a dual carriageway safely.

Do I need to pass my theory test before taking lessons?

Nope! You can learn the theory at the same time as the practical skills. We’ll guide you through both, and tell you when’s a good time to take each test. You will need to pass your theory test before taking your practical driving test though.

Do you offer automatic driving lessons?

No, the Mini you’ll be learning to drive in has a manual gearbox. Don’t be scared of it though! A manual gearbox is much easier to use than you might think.
